Jay-Z’s Puma sneakers are a steal of £ 90
Jay-Z is one of the most successful men in the music industry. In addition to his album list (if you count his collaborative efforts, there are well over 20 to his name), he is the founder of streaming service Tidal and entertainment company Roc Nation, has stakes in Uber, recently sold its champagne brand Armand De Brignac to LVMH is still co-owner of D’Ussé alongside beverage giant Bacardi.
And while this year Forbes estimated her net worth had passed the billion pound mark (add Beyoncé’s personal wealth and you have the richest couple in music), Jay-Z didn’t let his success go to his head. The rapper / producer / screenwriter could easily shell out the £ 30,000 now needed to freak out a pair of those Dior x Air Jordan sneaks or even the £ 32,000 his own Roc Nation Filas collaboration is asking Farfetch for. Still, he’s still walking around in shoes you could buy right now.
As seen in a photo taken with LeBron James and Bad Bunny during the recent HBO filming The shop: uninterrupted, Mr Shawn Carter donned a pair of £ 90 Wild Rider diapers from the German brand in a teal and orange colourway. The original Rider from the 1980s has long been Puma’s best running shoe. Designed for the transition from track running to road running, the sneakers were lightweight and flexible with minimal padding.
Jay-Z’s Wild Rider Diapers are an update to this OG design and were released earlier this year. Signature Rider foam forms a padded base and a comfortable terry towel lines the interior. Meanwhile, TPU details run along the eyelet and heel, suede and leather overlays cover the upper, while on the back you’ll find a ‘Designed By Puma’ tag.
And while it might be surprising that the “99 Problems” icon has a pair of Sneaks you may already have in their collection, it shouldn’t. Jay-Z has been working quietly in the background as Puma’s Creative Director of Basketball, a role that sees him consulting on creating new sneakers. If the Wild Rider Layers get Hov’s Seal of Approval, they should get yours, too.
